What Is Gematria?

Gematria assigns numerical values to letters, words, and phrases. When two phrases share a value in the same cipher, readers may compare their language, context, or symbolism. The number is a property of the spelling and cipher; interpretation comes afterward.

How it works

A cipher defines every letter value. English Ordinal counts A as 1 through Z as 26. Reduction compresses values to single digits, while reverse ciphers count from the opposite end. Every result should name its cipher.
