Kabbalah Numerology

Kabbalah is the Jewish mystical tradition whose best-known diagram, the Tree of Life, maps ten sephirot connected by exactly 22 paths — one for each Hebrew letter. Number is native to the system rather than decorative: letters are simultaneously sounds, meanings and values, and reading a word numerically is one of its traditional interpretive moves. That interpretive use of letter values is what later writers packaged as "kabbalah numerology."

Gematria as kabbalah's calculator

The calculation tool of the tradition is gematria itself: aleph counts 1, bet 2, and so on through tav at 400, so every Hebrew word has a definite total, and words sharing a total were read as commenting on each other. Kabbalah numerology vs Western numerology

Modern "kabbalah numerology" sold online is usually a rebranding of Western numerology with kabbalistic vocabulary attached; the historical system calculates Hebrew characters, not birthdays reduced to single digits. The practical differences from pop numerology: the alphabet is Hebrew, values run to 400 rather than restarting at 10, and the interpretive frame is textual rather than psychological.
